- 6 cup oats, rolled
- 2 cups bran rice
- 1 cup toasted sesame seeds
- 1 cup walnuts, chopped
- 1 cup sunflower seeds, hulled
- 1 cup pumpkin seeds, hulled
- 1 cup chopped dried apricots (unsulfured)
- 12 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 12 cup maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons powdered cinnamon
Combine the oil, syrup, and cinnamon. Mix in the dry ingredients. Mix well until evenly coated. Spread the mixture on a large cookie sheet or shallow baking pan. Bake at 250°F for about 90 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
Keep in an airtight container. Keeps well, however you may want to reduce the recipe to 12 for a few birds. It’s a tasty snack, but it’s heavy in fat and sugar, so don’t overdo it!! If you’re fortunate, your birds may even share! Try different chopped nuts and dried fruits for variety (almonds, filberts, peanuts, pecans, raisins, papaya, cranberries, banana chips, apple, etc.) Natural, preferably organic, substances should be used. Enjoy!
