  • To prevent the transmission of infectious illnesses and parasites, I keep my breeding birds in a closed aviary. I may allow visitors to see my personal pet (non-breeding) birds, or utilize closed-circuit viewing systems, or use other methods to allow potential purchasers to see the birds in my care, but my major concern is illness and infection prevention.
  • Any potential purchasers get care, training, nutrition, and behavior information on pet birds in general, as well as information on my individual birds, as well as copies of all relevant health records. I will also be accessible by phone for a fair period of time to answer questions and assist the new bird owner in selecting a suitable cage and toys for the bird.
  • I can give references to those who have previously purchased birds from me.
  • I only sell unweaned young birds in very unusual situations.
  • I personally and thoroughly screen each potential buyer to verify that the house is suitable, guaranteeing that each bird I produce has a lifelong home. If I use third parties to place birds, I only use those who follow the screening and education guidelines established in this Code of Ethics and whose procedures are known to and supervised by me personally.
